| Vaccines | Oncology, the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, is an important specialty in Cuba. Cancer is a leading cause of death among Cubans. In addition to the use of monoclonal antibodies for the diagnosis and treatment of "solid organ" malignancies in Cuba, Cuba has pursued modern diagnostics and treatment modalities for leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphomas and other hematologic dyscrasias. Clinical trials in Cuba primarily emanate from its National Institute of Hematology. The Institute of Hematology is also involved with clinical trials of an HIV vaccine in Cuba.
