others, Cuba has made extraordinary progress in biotechnology over the last 20 years. Its accomplishments have done much to alleviate its shortages of medical products due to poor economic conditions in Cuba. However, Cuba lacks adequate capital needed for "pure basic" research that is pursued without immediate commercial applications or revenues. In that regard, Cuba remains dependent upon discoveries of "giants" in science and medicine who are located in modern nations capable of funding "pure research" efforts. The World of Medicine is rapidly moving towards molecular diagnostics wherein the laboratory will play an even more important role in patient care. Human Preventive and Interventional Therapeutics will be emphasized greatly in the New Millennium. |
